Mandatory receive alerts From a forum2019-04-12T13:42:19-04:00

I want to automatically subscribe every user to a particular forum and not give them the ability to unsubscribe – BUT only one forum, not all forums – is that possible? If not, is there a way to manually make sure every user is subscribed to a particular forum, and remove their ability to unsubscribe from that forum?

in admin screen, to WPS PRO> Setup> there you will see a few listed under the forums list is Manage All Forums click on the forums you want to do this too and there are 2 options for you the one you want is Email all members that one they cannot opt out of.   Pic attached for that:

You have to be careful with this there are 2 options one where they can opt-out and one they cannot opt-out, you are dealing with Privacy issues here, so again BE CAREFUL.

Custom Look to Email Alerts2019-04-24T16:18:47-04:00
  • Setup  and scroll down to Alerts (you cannot stop them from replying to to an email (you can make a dummy email address (real) that you do not monitor)  anyway in the alerts settings page scroll down till you see 2 things one is HTML added to top of alert where you can add your own HTML to the top of the email telling them not to reply to this as it is not monitored and you can add an addition to the bottom as well.

THis is what I have for the top of the alert email (you will need to modify it to suit your needs.

 <p><style> <br />body { padding: 0; margin: 0; } <br /></style><br /><div style="padding:20px;
background-color:#510051"><br /><div style="border:1px solid #000; background-color:#efefef;
border-radius:5px;padding:20px;"><br /><center>
Please Do not Reply to this email address as it is not monitored!</center></p>

This is what I have for the bottom of the alert email (you will need to modify it to suit your needs.

Posts to a particular group of users2019-04-12T13:16:16-04:00

Is it possible to restrict a forum or its posts to a particular group of users, rather than a WordPress role?

WPS PRO uses WordPress Roles for its restrictions, you would have to use a plugin that restricts access to certain pages.

When using to can only use a parameter that is shown on the shortcode setting page for that shortcode.

Example (register_auto=”0″)  the “0” means that the parameter off and a “1” it is on!

You cannot make up your own and think they will work and ask for support

Example of this is  (registration_url=”/edit-profile”)  registration does not belong in the parameter.

The correct parameter is (url=”/edit-profile”)  🙂

WordPress Cron Not Working2019-02-15T20:44:46-04:00

WordPress Cron Not Working

Author: Jeff Starr

Category: WordPress Updated: August 11, 2018

My WordPress plugins, SFS and SAC, can do some cool stuff with WP Cron. But sadly on media temple servers WordPress Cron is not working. So after doing some research, it turns out to be a relatively common problem: various web hosts disable the functionality that is required for WordPress Cron to work. It’s kind of a bummer, but there is a relatively simple solution.

So if WordPress Cron is not working on your server, you can either switch hosts (if that is a luxury you can afford), or you can try the following quick fix.

Step 1: Add the following line to your wp-config.php file:

define('ALTERNATE_WP_CRON', true);

That’s all there is to it. This line invokes WP’s alternate cron method, which seems to work well on any server. So just add the line of code right above the line in wp-config.php that says, “That’s all, stop editing! Happy blogging”, and you’re done. Enjoy your bowl of WP Cron.

Downside & Alternate Solutions

The downside is that every so often, the requested URL will include a long query string containing various wp-cron parameters. If you surf around this site, for example, eventually one of the URLs that you visit will look something like this (note: because of googlebot’s aggressive crawl behavior, the domain name has been changed for the following example):

Not really that big of a deal, depending on how frequently WP Cron is running on your site. But if the occasional weird looking URLs are a deal-breaker for you, you alternately could rent a cheap server and set up a cron job, or even use a free cron service, which could fit the bill depending on your needs.

Bonus tip: you can trigger WP Cron manually by visiting the following URL:

Triggering WP Cron via the setcronjob parameter works as expected in most cases, but I just heard from a reader, who reported the following:

“I did try to run this: wp-cron.php?setcronjob. It would not stop, so I closed the window. Next time I logged in, I found this queries: ‘WordPress SEO Premium found that you deleted an article, click here to redirect the URL.’ About 10 notifications like that. I tried to figure out which articles were deleted, but I cannot find.”

Thank you to Dan for reporting this, it’s a good reminder. If you decide to trigger WP Cron manually, I guess just be aware that it might in turn trigger other scripts and plugins to execute any queued functionality. So as always, keep healthy backups of your site, test thoroughly, and always keep an eye on what you are doing.

Happy cron’ing people.

WP Cron + HTTP Authentication

Updating this post again to add: if your site is using HTTP Authentication (you know, the dialog/prompt that pops up and asks for your username and password), WP Cron will not work. This is because WP Cron does not present the proper login credentials when making the request. To help with this, I wrote a free plugin that enables WP Cron when HTTP auth is enabled. Check it out at the WP Plugin Directory: WP Cron HTTP Auth.

I cannot access my web site now2016-01-29T12:43:58-04:00

You should always be able to access your site  by putting this after the url to your site in your browser   /wp-login.php, example below:

http://your url/wp-login.php

I need a new activation code (License Code)2019-02-15T20:44:46-04:00

I just noticed that I’m getting an activation message at the top of my site.  I need a new activation code, apparently.

If your need a new code go to the admin>> WPS PRO >> License.  On that page there will be a link above where you enter your code to the code page .

How to TroubleShooting2016-01-29T13:45:38-04:00

These are standard troubleshooting procedures:

1) Make sure you are using the latest version of WPS PRO and the extensions.

2) Clear cache in your browser you are using and refresh your page.

3) Turn off minify and/or cache plugins and see if this helps. (Advised to leave off WPS PRO pages as will stop some of the background Processes)

4) Turn off all your plugins and see if the issue resolves to determine if the fault lies elsewhere first.

5) Check if the issue occurs in all browsers and if possible on Mac or Windows, and does it happen on any other PC?

Updating WPS PRO2016-01-28T10:34:00-04:00

Both WPS PRO and WPS PRO Extension always must have the same version number.

When a update come out update WP Symposium Pro then go right back to the update page and update WP Symposium Pro (Extensions), this  will assure that you have the newest updated version for both the core and extesnions

Short Codes Not Working2016-01-28T10:26:39-04:00

I am only seeing the short code on the pages?

This is normally because you have not turned on the extension for that short code.  Turn them on under WPS PRO setup  in the bar  Extension It is recommended that you just turn them all on to start with.

Is there a Chat Room2016-04-14T16:08:21-04:00

It has what you could call a chat room (lounge) it’s really what use to be called a shout box. If you want a real chat you would need to install one of which there are many available on WordPress.org plugins.

Cometchat can provide instant chat between users. You can read more about here with more detail as well

The lounge is no longer being supported.

Groups not Showing up2016-01-28T09:58:18-04:00

THe most common cause of the Groups not showing that you have made is that in the WPS PRO setup page  You will see a bar  called Groups! There you have to assign the Group page to it! Not the Groups page!

Groups is where you make a group and the Group is then displayed on the Group page once you select a group to see.

Groups in the page you will add to your menu, do not add the group page there.

Now they should be working just fine.

Extensions not working2016-01-28T09:51:35-04:00

Why are my extensions not working is normally because they have not been turned on.  🙂  Go to WPS PRO setup, there you will see a bar called extensions.

They have to be turned on in order for them to work by checking the check box on them.  To start I would turn them all on as you can always turn off features you do not want.

Add a Forum2019-02-15T20:44:46-04:00

On the WPS PRO Setup page  there is a button called Add forum. By clicking on the you will see 2 items  Enter name of new forum and  Enter description of new forum, once you enter your Forum title and description  click the Publish button and the Page is made for you.

Make as many as you need here!

How to install WPS PRO2019-02-15T20:44:46-04:00

The easiest way to make the pages for WPS PRO is to let PRO do it for you!

On the WPS PRO setup you will see buttons that will make the pages for you and put the required short-codes on that page.

On the WPS PRO setup page you will see Quick Start, there you will see buttons that will make the pages. Clisk on the Add Profile Pages and this will make  the following pages which you can add to your menu:

  1. Profile Page
  2.  Edit Profile
  3. Change Avatar
