What is it for? The Codex does not explain what to do with it.

It can be a notification if needed but they all appear in the Alertsas well.

You can place this on the profile page and will let them know when a person requests the be a friend

Displays an icon for pending friendship requests.

Office hours: 10 AM - 3 PM Monday to Friday, (USA eastern time zone).

This information is right in admin under the short on the page for that shortcode. Every chort code has int purpose of use listed for use.

Thanks, I figured it out after all. Had mistakingly thought that the ICON URL needed to point to a icon graphic instead of the corresponding page.
